Paper Cowgirl presents A  Wicked Tea Workshop

Come spend a glorious Fall day with Paper Cowgirl, as we dine on wickedly, delicious goodies, and collaborate creatively with delightfully, haunting classes.  

This will be an intense, one day workshop, with the cost of the workshop including all four great classes presented by Ann-Denise Anderson, Lisa McIlvain, Cindy Mayfield and Lesley Venable (see class details below).  

Your workshop price of $220.00 also includes breakfast nibbles, coffee, lunch (see menu below), a decadent goodie bar, four great classes, fabulous goodie bags and more. 

Our class location is the charming, pink Cottage (on Water Street) in Waxahachie, Texas.  This delightful, pink "doll-house for big girls" will be bedecked and bedazzled with spooky splendor to get us all in the "spirit".

Some come join us in the month that has, days and nights of thirty-one, sweltered venom sleeping got, Boil thou first in the charmed pot!  Double, double boil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble!  Its a Wicked Tea!  Hee, heee heeeee heeeee!

Please prepare to arrive at THE COTTAGE, by 8:30 a.m.  After a little nosh and coffee, classes will begin promptly at 9:00 am.  We will break for lunch and finish our last class by 6:00 p.m. 

The Shadow Book of Prudence Caulders

Teacher - Cindy Mayfield

"Prudence just knew things.  Prudence had a way with plants.  Some would say that Prudence was very clever.  Some might even say worse, for her way with things often was almost "magical".  She knew to dream of the man you would marry, you should put rosemary under your pillow at night.  And these thoughts and details, this practical magic, she kept is a small diary, that she always kept hidden."   We will craft a small, book of "spells" using herb folklore as our basis for the diary of Prudence Caulders.  This class will teach my own funky handwriting techniques as well as, embellished journal techniques. 
 Supplies needed:
Two large empty cereal boxes - please cut each box into two pieces each, sized 5"across and 6" down (rectangle size), save the large remainders and bring to class. 
Basic class kit of scissors, glue, pencil, ruler, hole punch, inks.  Please also bring your favorite writing marker or calligraphy pen if you wish, I'm comfortable with either.  And scratch paper to practice writing on.


  
Witch Craft

Teacher - Lisa McIlvain

A long time ago, a cavernous house lay up a steep road.  Broken and mysterious, there were rumors that a coven inhabited the quarters.  Sometimes when the moon was full and the wind silent, you could hear their chants, as they conjured spells and potions.

Double, Double, Boil and Trouble!

 Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble!  

For our, Witch Craft,  you will alter a simple box with layers of fabric, old papers, new and vintage findings.  You will learn some image transfer techniques and tips on creating a beautiful layered and complex piece of work.
Supplies:
You will need a basic tool kit containing glue stick, scissors, mat gel medium, and a sponge brush.  All other supplies will be provided.  


 Crone's Cottage Pendant

Teacher - Lesley Venable

Every neighborhood has one, or a story of one.  The house nobody wants to go near.  The house with creaking doors and broken windows, surrounded by rumors of evil doings and spooky residents, the one dares were made for and that we all avoided at Halloween.  Do you remember?  We are going to capture those memories and create our own one of a kind Crone's Cottage Pendant.

We will be aging handmade clay house shaped bezels (provided to you in your kit) with your own one of a kind haunted house memory and then we will be sealing it all with resin.  Go as spooky or as sweet as you want with your pendant...the only requirement is to have fun and get creative.

Supply List:
Scissors
A vintage or new necklace that can be re purposed (this will end up being the chain for your pendant)
Small bits that you may want to add to your pendant or hang from the bottom
Glue Stick
Mod Podge (if you don't have any I will have a large jar in the classroom).
Heat Gun (don't purchase one if you don't already have one, I am sure there will be enough to share).
Imagination, Imagination, Imagination

If you would like to use one of the gem tintypes like I did and you don't have one, I can provide them at a cost of $4.00 each. 

Once you have signed up for the class please let me know if you would like to have your pendant with the chain hanging from the top or both sides as well as if you will be hanging something from the bottom of your pendant.  I will already have the necessary hardware in place on your unfinished pendant before arriving.  Just email me at flatwoodsfolkart@aol.com with Wicked Tea Class as the subject.

 Vintage Style Halloween Noisemaker

Imagine a Halloween eve, in the early 1900's.  A wee tot feels a bit more braver, with his noisemaker clutched tightly in one hand, rattling cheerfully, to scare away the bogey men, that seem to lurk in the shadows on this moon-lite, All Hallows Eve celebration.  

Halloween is the quintessential American Holiday and one of the earliest, most prized possessions, a Halloween Noise Maker, was the most unique creation made during the early 1900's.  Originating in Germany during the early part of the 20th Century, they were first used to scare away bogeymen and other evil spirits.  

In this project, we will focus on a very easy and manageable medium to work with, paper clay.  I will show how to construct a Halloween cat noise maker from scratch.  From the tiniest detail of forming his whiskers to decorating an elaborate neck wrap made of crepe paper, we will create him from, well, head to stick.  This will definitely be a project for future holiday decor!  

Supplies Needed:
8 oz Creative Paper Clay (this can be purchased at Hobby Lobby and use a 40% off coupon and only pay $3.00 for the package).
Scissors
Any personal trims buttons, fabrics or embellishments of sorts to lend your own personality to the project.
All other materials will be provided.
